Mt. Clemens, MI – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced three defendants were bound over to face trial in the circuit court in connection with the alleged attempted murder of local businessman Eddie Jawad.
Friday, February 20, 2026, was the second day of the Preliminary Exam of Jasan Martin, Rachard Huffman, and Dawn Huffman before Judge Stephen S. Sierawski in the 41A District Court in Shelby Township, MI. At the end of the hearing, Judge Sierawski ruled that sufficient evidence exists to increase one of Rachard and Dawn Huffman’s charges. The count of Conspiracy to Commit Embezzlement of More than $1,000 but less than $20,000, a 5-year felony, was changed to Conspiracy to Commit Embezzlement of $100,000 or more, 20-year felony. Jasan Huffman was bound over on five felony counts.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Carrie Seward and Caitlin Sahlaney represented the People at the Exam.
Jasan, Rachard Huffman, and Dawn Huffman will be arraigned before Judge James M. Maceroni on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the Macomb County Circuit Court. All the defendants are in custody at the Macomb County Jail with bonds of $1 million.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido stated, “Allegations of premeditated attempted murder strike at the core of public safety. Planning to take a life—even if unsuccessful—is an act of extreme danger and moral depravity. Our community cannot tolerate calculated violence that treats human life as disposable, and we will continue to act decisively to protect the public and seek justice for the victims.”
Jasan Martin, 32 of Eastpointe, is facing the following felonies.
- Conspiracy to Commit Homicide – Murder First Degree – Premeditated, punishable by life without parole
- Assault with Intent To Murder, punishable by life or any term of years
- Weapons Felony Firearm, a 2-year felony, consecutive to main charge
- Weapons - Firearms - Possession By Prohibited Person, a 5-year felony
- Weapons Felony Firearm, a 2-year felony, consecutive to main charge
Martin also has a Habitual Offender - Fourth Offense Notice, subjecting him to mandatory life in prison if convicted of any of the primary felonies.
Rachard Deandre Huffman, 39 of Sterling Heights, is charged with the following:
- Conspiracy to Commit Homicide – Murder First Degree – Premeditated, punishable by life without parole
- Conspiracy to Commit Embezzlement – Agent or Trustee $100,000 or More, a 20-year felony
Dawn Huffman, 45 and also of Sterling Heights, MI, is charged with the following:
- Conspiracy to Commit Homicide – Murder First Degree – Premeditated, punishable by life without parole
- Embezzlement of $100,000 or More, a 20-year felony, and
- Conspiracy to Commit Embezzlement – Agent or Trustee $100,000 or More, a 20-year felony.
Dawn Huffman, formerly the office manager for Jawad Investments, is accused of embezzling more than $100,000 from the company. Prosecutors allege that she, along with her husband Rachard Huffman and his brother Jasan Martin, conspired to silence the company’s owner, Eddie Jawad, after he noticed unusual activity on a business credit card. It is alleged that on Oct. 14, 2025, Martin hid under a vehicle in Jawad’s driveway and fired multiple gunshots as Jawad drove past.
