Court orders competency evaluation of Roseville man after alleged barricaded gunman incident

Mount Clemens, MI – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that that Daniel Waldrep, 30, of Roseville, was referred by the court for a competency and criminal culpability evaluation. The criminal case stems from January 23, 2026, when the defendant allegedly forced entry into his home while intoxicated and armed, injuring his wife, then barricaded himself and fired a high-powered rifle at responding officers, striking a patrol vehicle and wounding an officer. 

On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Waldrep appeared before Judge Joseph F. Boedeker at the 39th District Court in Roseville, MI for a Probable Cause Conference. At the request of defense counsel, the court referred Waldrep to the Center for Forensic Psychiatry for an evaluation regarding his competency to stand trial and his criminal culpability, and scheduled a Review Hearing for April 15, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.

Waldrep is charged with the following offenses:

FOUR COUNTS: Assault with Intent to Murder, a felony punishable by any term of years up to life

ONE COUNT: Weapons – Firearms – Possession by a Prohibited Person, a 5-year felony

ONE COUNT: Weapons – Ammunition – Possession by a Prohibited Person, a 5-year felony

ONE COUNT: Attempted Peace Officer – Disarming Firearm, a 10-year felony

ONE COUNT: Police Officer – Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing, a 2-year felony

ONE COUNT: Domestic Violence, a 93-day misdemeanor

SIX COUNTS: Weapons Felony Firearm, a 2-year felony, each a consecutive term to main charge

Waldrep also has a Habitual Offender – Third Offense Notice, an aggravating sentencing factor.

These are the maximum charges available under the law based upon the evidence presented.

Waldrep in in custody at the Macomb County Jail with a bond set at two million dollars cash/surety, no 10%.

This step protects the fairness of the process and ensures that any outcome is legally sound. Addressing competency at the outset allows the case to move forward appropriately and upholds our responsibility to the victim and the community.”
