Mount Clemens, MI – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that Al Fairfax, 40, of Clinton Township, has been arraigned on felony charges, including First-Degree Murder, in connection with the death of a Clinton Township woman with whom he was allegedly involved in a relationship.
It is alleged that on March 24, 2026, officers from the Clinton Township Police Department conducted a welfare check on 36-year-old Shamekia Kelly after a concerned individual reported that Kelly had failed to report to work the previous day. Upon arriving at the residence, officers discovered Kelly deceased from multiple stab wounds.
As a result of the thorough investigation conducted by the Clinton Township Police Department, it is alleged that Fairfax was responsible for Kelly’s death and stole her 2019 Chevrolet Malibu, cellular phone, and keys.
On Thursday, June 11, 2026, Fairfax was arraigned before Magistrate Ryan Zemke in the 41B District Court in Clinton Township, MI. Fairfax is charged with the following offenses:
· Homicide – Murder First Degree – Premeditated, a felony punishable by life without parole
· Homicide – Felony Murder, a felony punishable by life without parole.
· Motor Vehicle – Unlawful Driving Away, a 5-year felony
· Larceny in a Building, a 4-year felony
· Habitual Offender – Fourth Offense Notice, an aggravating sentencing factor
These are the maximum charges available under the law based on the evidence presented to date.
"The allegations in this case describe a brutal act of violence that claimed the life of a young woman. We are committed to pursuing justice on behalf of the victim and stand with her family during this difficult time. My office will work diligently to ensure that justice is served and that those responsible are held accountable," stated Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
41B District Court Magistrate Ryan Zemke did the arraignment for Fairfax. No bond was set due the nature of the charges, and Fairfax was immediately remanded back into custody. Fairfax is scheduled to appear at a Probable Cause Conference before Judge Carrie L. Fuca at the 41B District Court on June 23, 2026 at 1:00 pm.
