Mount Clemens, MI -   Today, Westland resident Jose Eugeno Medina-Hernandez was sentenced for his December 12, 2024 conviction on all charges by a Macomb County jury for a traffic incident that killed two after a jury trial by Assistant Prosecutors Mark Stepek and Christopher Urban in Shelby Township District Court.

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, Jose Medina-Hernandez, age 33, was driving a box truck southbound on M-53 in Shelby Township when he rear ended a Buick Verano which triggered a chain reaction involving two other vehicles.  The Buick occupants, 88-year-old Nancy Richmond and 63-year-old Crystal Brunn were killed in the crash.  Medina-Hernandez was charged with two counts of Moving Violation Causing Death, one year misdemeanors.

At today’s sentencing hearing, Assistant Prosecutor Mark Stepek requested the Shelby Township District Court Judge Douglas Shepherd to take into consideration the defendant’s four previous accidents when sentencing him.  The judge agreed and sentenced him to 270 days in jail, two years probation after the jail term and 50 hours of community service. The victim's family members were in the courtroom and were satisfied with the judge’s sentence.

“Our thoughts continue to be with the victims' families as they navigate the healing process after this profound loss," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
