Man Arraigned on 16 Counts of Mail Theft in Fraser

Mount Clemens, MI -  A Detroit man was arraigned in connection with stealing mail from the Fraser Post Office.

It is alleged that on Monday, September 2, 2024, Davin Lawrence, age 28, was caught in the act of opening a mail depository mailbox at the Fraser Post Office by Fraser Police Officers.  After Lawrence opened the mailbox, police attempted to take him into custody but Lawrence fled on foot.  He was later located and arrested without incident.

“Mail theft is not just a simple property crime—it poses a serious risk to our community by opening the door to identity theft. When individuals steal mail, they often gain access to sensitive personal information that can be used to commit fraud and cause long-lasting harm to victims. This type of crime undermines public trust and violates the privacy of citizens. We are committed to prosecuting those who engage in such acts and protecting the security of our community," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

Davin Lawrence was charged with Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer, a two year felony, and 16 counts of Mail Theft, a one year misdemeanor.  He is a habitual fourth offender.

Lawrence was arraigned in 39th Fraser District Court where District Court Judge Alyia Hakim set bond at $10,000 cash/surety, 10%.  A Probable Cause Hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 8:30 am and a Preliminary Exam is scheduled for Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 8:30 am.
