Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office Continues Efforts to Collect Back Child Support
Mount Clemens, MI - Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido’s continues his proactive approach to tackling child support arrears in Macomb County. Under his leadership, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office Family Division has focused on both financial responsibility and the well-being of children in the county. Individuals are criminally charged after failure to or refusing to cooperate with the Macomb County Prosecutors’ Office to get back on track with their court ordered child support payments.
In collaboration with the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department, the Family Division launched an effort to address felony child support warrants. The following individuals were recently arraigned for Failing to Pay Child Support, a four year felony.
- Deangelo Hayman, 40, of Clinton Township - Allegedly owes in four cases, totaling $74,872.80 in arrearages
- Brian Yeager, 52, of Clinton Township - Allegedly owes $42,574.56 in arrearages
- Karahara Hale, 53, of Clinton Township - Allegedly owes $33,525.64 in arrearages
- Antonio Santos, 40, of Harrison Township - Allegedly owes $18,080.81 in arrearages
- James Jackson, 36, of Warren - Allegedly owes $7,810.79 in arrearages
- Jessica Castandeda, 31, of Warren - Allegedly owes $7,361.53 in arrearages
- Kenneth Keith, 36, of Warren - Allegedly owes $5,390.24 in arrearages
“Paying child support is not just a legal obligation, it’s a fundamental responsibility as a parent. Failing to meet that responsibility can lead to serious consequences, including felony charges. We will continue to work with the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department to ensure Macomb County children are taken care of financially,” said Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
The Family Division investigates and prosecutes felony non-support cases, where a noncustodial parent owes more than $5,000 in child support. The arrears must exceed $5,000, payments must be missed for three consecutive months, and the noncustodial parent must have the ability to pay while residing in Michigan. This aims to ensure both parents financially support their children and uphold the law.
Under Lucido’s direction the Family Division started another initiative in 2022, in an effort to collect child support payments instead of prosecution. As a result, the Macomb County Prosecutors’ Office with bipartisan support from the Macomb County Board of Commissioners have collected over $1.2 million for Macomb County children.
