Eastpointe Man Arraigned for Allegedly Strangling His Wife

A 41-year-old Eastpointe man has been arraigned for killing his wife.

Eastpointe Man Arraigned for Allegedly Strangling His Wife

Mount Clemens, MI - A 41-year-old Eastpointe man has been arraigned for killing his wife.

It is alleged that on Saturday, July 27, 2024, Steven Frank Kolson Jr. got into an altercation with his 43-year-old wife April Vitale, that resulted in her death by strangulation. Kolson was charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder, a life without parole felony. 

Steven Frank Kolson Jr. was arraigned in 38 Eastpointe District Court where Magistrate Mark Makowski set bond at $5 Million cash/surety only.  If released, Kolson must wear a steel cuff GPS tether with home confinement and have no contact with any witnesses or the victim’s family.  A Probable Cause Hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, August 13, 2024 and a Preliminary Exam is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20, 2024 by District Court Judge Kathleen Galen.

“This tragic case underscores the urgent need to address and stop domestic violence. We must work together as a community to protect the vulnerable and prevent such senseless acts of violence," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
