Detroit Man Arraigned on 12 Felonies in Connection with a Burglary and Fleeing Police

Mount Clemens, MI - A 45-year-old Detroit man was arraigned on 13 counts in connection with a burglary of a business located on Irwin St., south of Joy Blvd in Harrison Township.
On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Joseph Calderon allegedly stole items from a business and fled the scene in his vehicle. The Macomb County Sheriff’s Department attempted a traffic stop on Calderon. Calderon did not stop and led police on a chase through Mount Clemens before officers were able to stop his vehicle. Calderon fled the vehicle on foot and was arrested shortly after.
Calderon is charged with the following:
Count 1: Possession of Burglar’s Tools, a ten year felony
Count 2: Third Degree Fleeing a Police Officer, a five year felony
Count 3: Unlawful Driving Away of a Motor Vehicle, a five year felony
Count 4: Unlawful Driving Away of a Motor Vehicle, a five year felony
Count 5: Unlawful Driving Away of a Motor Vehicle, a five year felony
Count 6: Malicious Destruction of Personal Property of $1,000 or more but less than $20,000, a five year felony
Count 7: Breaking and Entering a Vehicle to Steal Property $1,000 or more but less than $20,000, a five year felony
Count 8: Larceny of $1,000 or more but less than $20,000, a five year felony
Count 9: Larceny of $1,000 or more but less than $20,000, a five year felony
Count 10: Larceny of $1,000 or more but less than $20,000, a five year felony
Count 11: Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer Causing Injury, a four year felony
Count 12: Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer Causing Injury, a four year felony
Count 13: Operating a Motor Vehicle on a Suspended License - Second Offense, a one year misdemeanor
Calderon is also being charged as a habitual fourth offender which may increase the penalties. He was arraigned in 41B Clinton Township District Court where Magistrate Ryan Zemke set bond at $25,000 cash/surety only. If released, Calderon is to wear a GPS tether and have no contact with the victim. A Probable Cause Hearing is scheduled for December 10, 2024 at 8:30am in front of District Court Judge Sebastian Lucido.
“Facing 12 felony charges underscores the severity of this case and the blatant disregard for the law displayed by the defendant. These charges reflect the harm caused to the victims and the danger posed to the community during his attempt to evade justice. Our office is determined to hold him accountable and ensure the safety and well-being of our residents," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
