Clinton Township Man Sentenced in First-Degree Murder Conviction of His Wife

Mount Clemens, MI - Today, 31-year-old Steven Bryce Wheeler was sentenced for his First-Degree Premeditated Murder and Felony Firearm convictions by a Macomb County jury after a six-day jury trial by Macomb County Assistant Prosecutors Kumar Palepu and Kelsey Heath.

On Thursday, October 19, 2023, Steven Wheeler shot his wife in the head five times in their home while she was on the phone with 911. The jury found him guilty as charged with First Degree Murder, a life felony and Felony Firearm, a two-year mandatory felony. Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Julie Gatti sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole on the First Degree Premeditated Murder conviction and two years to be served first for the Felony Firearm conviction.

"This was a senseless and brutal act of violence that took the life of an innocent woman and forever shattered the lives of her loved ones. No punishment can ever undo the pain and loss this family has endured. I hope this conviction sends a clear message that domestic violence will not be tolerated, and we remain committed to seeking justice for victims and their families,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office represents the People. We are committed to achieving justice and following the laws of the State of Michigan.
