Mount Clemens, MI -  A Clinton Township resident was arraigned yesterday for the shooting of his mother and brother, killing his mother and severely injuring his brother.

It is alleged that on Friday, July, 5, 2024 Corey Deyshaun Cook, age 24, shot his 49-year-old mother Yolanda Cook and his 31-year-old brother in their home.  Yolanda Cook was pronounced dead at the scene.  The brother is at a nearby hospital on life support.  After the shooting, Corey Cook went to the Clinton Township Police Department and told officers he shot two people.  Cook was detained. Police officers performed a welfare check and found the victims.

Corey Deyshaun Cook was charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder, a life felony without parole, two counts of Felony Firearm, two year mandatory felonies, and Assault with Intent to Murder, a life felony.

Cook was arraigned in 41B Clinton Township District Court where Magistrate Ryan Zemke. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Patrick  Sierawski appeared at the arraignment to argue bond. Due to the heinous and dangerous nature of the allegations Sierawski requested that the court give the defendant the highest bond possible.  Zemke set bond at $1 million cash/surety.   A Probable Cause Hearing is scheduled for Monday, July 22, 2024 at 1:00pm by District Court Judge Carrie Fuca.

“Our office is committed to seeking justice for the victims and their family. We will ensure that the accused is held fully accountable for this alleged premeditated act of violence," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office represents the people.  We are committed to achieving justice and following the laws of the State of Michigan. All that are accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
