Mount Clemens, MI - A 43-year-old man was arraigned in connection with the death of his neighbor's dog.

It is alleged that on Thursday, August 15, 2024, Andrae Maurice Jones shot and killed his neighbor’s dog “Buddy” when the dog came close to his property line.  Jones was charged with Killing/Torturing an Animal in the Third Degree, a four year felony, Felony Firearm, a two year mandatory felony, Careless Discharge of a Firearm, one year misdemeanor, and Malicious Destruction of Property over $200 less than $1,000, a one year misdemeanor.

On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Andrae Maurice Jones was arraigned in 41B Clinton Township District Court where Magistrate Ryan Zemke set bond at $20,000 cash/surety, 10% and upon release he is to have no contact with the dog’s owners or possess any firearms or ammunition.  A Probable Cause Hearing is scheduled for Monday, September 16, 2024 by District Court Judge Jacob Femminineo, Jr.

“Under Michigan law, intentionally killing a dog is a four-year felony. The consequences of the defendant's actions extend beyond just legal repercussions. The family is now grieving the loss of a beloved family member. We will ensure the defendant faces the consequences of his alleged actions,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
