Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel announces appointment of David Viviano to the Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority

Press Release

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel is pleased to announce the appointment of former Michigan Supreme Court Justice David Viviano to the Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority (DRCFA). Viviano will fill the seat previously held by Marilyn Lane, who served as Vice Chair of the DRCFA.

“Dave has a proven track record of leadership and public service, making him an exceptional addition for the DRCFA board,” said Mark A. Hackel. "His deep understanding of the law and commitment to our community will strengthen the Authority's mission to drive economic growth and collaboration across the region."

David Viviano brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the DRCFA. A lifelong Macomb County resident, Viviano served with distinction as a Justice on the Michigan Supreme Court, where he was known for his commitment to fairness, integrity and public service. Prior to his tenure on the Supreme Court, Viviano served as Chief Judge of the Macomb County Circuit and Probate Courts as well as a lawyer in private legal practice.

“I look forward to this exciting opportunity to serve the community and strengthen our ties to the region,” said former justice, David Viviano. “Working alongside Executive Hackel and our regional partners, I am committed to promoting the transformation of Huntington Place and ensuring it is an asset that unites our region.”

The DRCFA is responsible for overseeing operations at Huntington Place, the premier convention and event venue in Detroit and a critical economic driver for the region. Viviano’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as the DRCFA continues to build on its success in attracting national and international events to Southeast Michigan.

Marilyn Lane, who has served on the DRCFA since 2020, is stepping down after years of dedicated service. Lane has been a true advocate for regional collaboration and economic growth.

The Macomb County community thanks Marilyn Lane for her leadership and contributions to the DRCFA and welcomes David Viviano as he takes on this new role.

“I want to thank Marilyn for her service on the Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority,” said Hackel. “Her commitment to serve has ensured that Macomb County is aligned with the future success of this critical regional asset. The partnerships we have forged during her tenure will be the foundation for a stronger region.”
