“We’re happy to be able to offer the Summer Discovery Cruise program again this year” said Andrew Cox, director/health officer of the Macomb County Department of Health and Community Services which oversees the MSU Extension department. “It’s a fun, educational way to experience the wonders of Lake St. Clair in Macomb County.”

Passengers will have the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely two-hour cruise along beautiful Lake St. Clair while learning about lighthouses, birds, shipwrecks, ongoing scientific research, and more. Cruises will feature many engaging topics, including:

  • Birds of Lake St. Clair
  • Great Lakes Fur Trade
  • Great Lakes Science
  • History of Lake St. Clair
  • Lighthouse Tour
  • Shipwrecks
  • South Channel Lights
  • Twilight Hour
  • Voyageurs

Cruises will depart from, and return to the Lake St. Clair Metropark North Marina on select dates beginning July 11, 2025 and running through August 9, 2025, with departure times at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.  Ticket prices have remained the same as last year at $30 per person and are available online through the Huron-Clinton Metroparks website. Seating is limited and early registration is highly recommended.

“Our Summer Discovery Cruises are perfect for families, group leaders, and anyone looking for an opportunity to learn about and enjoy Lake St. Clair,” said Kristi Evans, District Director of Michigan State University Extension. “I would encourage anyone who is looking for a unique summer experience to make their reservations as soon as possible.”

Angela Scapini, a Michigan State University Extension Sea Grant Extension Educator in Macomb County agrees, “I’m excited about this year’s program. We have an excellent lineup of cruise themes and I’m looking forward to sharing them with everyone.” Angela works with local communities, partners and networks promoting Great Lakes literacy and community resiliency through place-based education programs and has been instrumental in the design of this year’s Summer Discovery Cruise program.
