Located in Novi, Michigan, Tollgate Farm and Education Center offers hands-on opportunities to explore animals, gardening, nature, and agriculture in a unique urban farm setting.

Tollgate Farm and Education Center includes 70 acres of open pasture land and hayfields, 40 acres of woods, a pond, an arboretum, beautifully maintained buildings and horticultural demonstration gardens.                                                          

Discover a collection of historic buildings that date back to the mid-1800s, each telling a unique story of the past. The grounds surrounding these architectural gems are meticulously landscaped, honoring the site's agricultural heritage. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of MSU Tollgate garden volunteers, these beautifully maintained gardens are open to the public from Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to dusk, inviting visitors to enjoy their serene beauty.

Tollgate Farm is located at 28115 Meadowbrook Road, Novi, MI 48377,  between 12 and 13 Mile Road.

Night Hikes on the Farm: Batty About Bats?

August 21, 2026, 8–9:30 p.m.

Bats are all around and their habits and adaptations give them an incredibly interesting role in their ecosystem. Come along as we investigate our furry flying fiends as they flit around the wood line at Tollgate Farm. Cost: $14 per person.


Forest Therapy with Ellen

August 23, 2026, 7:30–9 p.m. 

Tollgate Farm forest therapy walks are back! Come enjoy the Tollgate woods and enter into a deeper connection with the natural world. Cost: $22 per person.

Take a leisurely family walk and keep your eyes—and ears—open for birds along Tollgate Farm’s paths. This relaxed hike invites all ages to discover how birds care for their young, build strong family bonds, and raise the next generation. Cost: $14 per person.


Night Hikes on the Farm: Predators of the Night

September 11, 2026, 7–8:30 p.m. 

Darkness is an advantage many predator animals use to gain the upper hand on their prey. As we walk through the habitats of Tollgate Farm, let us investigate who is adapted to be a successful hunter during the night and who they are looking for. Cost: $14 per person.

Morning Meanderings: Backyard Birding

You don’t have to travel far to become a birder—your backyard is the perfect place to start! During this stroll through Tollgate Farm, we’ll focus on common backyard birds and share simple ways you can make your own outdoor spaces bird friendly. Cost: $14 per person.


Night Hikes on the Farm: Folklore Nights

October 9, 2026, 6–7:30 p.m. 

Night plays a large role in traditional folklore. Our trek around Tollgate will give us the opportunity to talk about myths, legends, and spirits of the night. Come if you dare! Cost: $14 per person.

October 25, 2026, 10–11:30 a.m. 

Meadows are open, airy habitats full of bird life. Join us for a peaceful walk as we observe meadow dwelling birds, learn how they build their nests, and discover what makes these open spaces such an important place to call home. Cost: $14 per person.
