What to bring to WIC appointments

In order to make qualify for Michigan WIC, you must meet the following three guidelines:

  • Meet one of the following categories
    • Pregnant individual or postpartum individual up to six months after delivery
    • Breastfeeding individual up to one year after delivery
    • Infants or children up to age five
  • Live in Michigan
    • U.S. Citizenship is not required. The Macomb County Health Department WIC program currently services Macomb County residents who live south of M-59 (Hall Road). If you live in Macomb County, but north of M-59, you should apply at the Community First Health Centers WIC Program: 586-749-5197, ext. 233.
  • Income eligible
    • To participate, you must be at or below 185% of Federal Poverty Guidelines. If you are on Medicaid or food stamps (SNAP), you automatically qualify for WIC. Please view the current income guidelines.
    • You may use this online screening tool to help you determine whether your family is eligible for WIC.

For your WIC appointment, you must bring proof of identity, residency, and income to make sure you qualify. For a list of items that count as these proofs, check here.

WIC approved foods, shopping videos, & WIC Connect App

WIC Connect Mobile App

Michigan WIC is excited that the WIC Connect Mobile App is available to current WIC clients, and to allow people interested in the WIC program to check if they are eligible. The WIC Connect Mobile App is available for free in the App Store™ and Google Play™.

Use the app to schedule appointments, track your benefits, scan foods for WIC information, keep your family information updated, see WIC friendly stores, and WIC office locations.

If you already have a MILogin account for something else, like Secretary of State or MI Bridges, DON'T CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT. Use the same account you already have. If you make more than one account, please call the help desk below for assistance.

Are you experiencing issues with your WIC Connect App? Please call the MI Login Help Desk at 877-932-6424 and select option 5.

WIC health care provider forms

If your child or you are prescribed a specialty formula or nutritional supplement, your healthcare provider can fill out the MI WIC Special Formula/Food Request Form. WIC will determine if the formula/supplement is WIC approved and/or if it meets our guidelines. Just because your doctor fills out the form and provides it to WIC does NOT mean you qualify for the formula/supplement. WIC Registered Dietitians and Nutritionist will review the form and get in touch with you to let you know if you qualify or not.

Your doctor's office can fax or provide you with a recent copy of measurements and lab levels to bring with you for your next WIC visit. Doctor would just need to fill out the WIC Anthropometric and Laboratory Information Request Form. This can save your child or you some additional time at your WIC appointment. We like to have recent measurements within the last 30 to 60 days based on our policies.

wichealth

Save time and complete your nutrition education activity on-line by visiting an amazing wichealth website created just for WIC families.

Over 1 million WIC families in the U.S. have used this wonderful resource. There is a large variety of nutrition topics to choose from, designed just for you. Parents and caregivers who complete a nutrition education lesson on this site can email their completed certificate to us directly at mailto:wic@macombgov.org. Once your emailed certificate is received, the WIC staff will contact you to load your next set of WIC benefits. WIC can do this right over the phone!

Important

Make sure to verify your email and/or phone number via the email and text code you were sent once your WIC health account has been registered. Otherwise you will not be able to use these methods to help recover your account in the future. You will need to call your local WIC office to look up your account and verify them for you first.

We recommend you use your family ID number instead of your WIC card number when creating your account. This will allow you to have an additional recovery account option.

Having trouble?

Select the "Trouble Signing In" option on the webpage under the "login" button.  From there you will be able to retrieve and reset your login info via email/text or by entering your state, WIC ID, and the answer to your security question.

If you are still having trouble, in the lower righthand corner, click on the "Help" button for more assistance. You can also call 855-411-0233 for assistance.
