Statement from the Macomb County Department of Roads regarding the work zone tragedy in Oakland County

The following statement can be attributed to Bryan Santo, Director, Macomb County Department of Roads (MCDR) regarding the fatality of a Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) road professional and workers who were critically injured in a work zone incident on July 23, 2025:

“Today is a difficult day. With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of fellow road professional, Cedric Jones, at the Road Commission for Oakland County. We hope for a healthy recovery for the workers who were injured in the incident. Our thoughts are with our colleagues and friends at Oakland County during this difficult time. This is a tragic and sobering reminder of how fragile life can be and the hazards road workers face every day. We will always remember those who have been lost while performing their duties on Michigan roads. Road workers perform an essential function for our communities and it’s everyone’s responsibility to ensure we all get home safely.”
