Macomb County Expands Access to Justice in District Courts

Remote Navigators, who are employees of Michigan Legal Help, are now available in the Romeo District Court (42-1) and New Baltimore District Court (42-2). They provide free access to legal information, tools to complete court forms, and assistance through live video via Zoom on computers located in the district courts.

Remote Navigators had been available in the 16th Circuit Court since August 2023. Macomb County’s Remote Navigator received more traffic than any other county offering Remote Navigator services. These statistics showed the necessity of creating a staffed Self-Help Center in the County.

Since the staffed Center opened in June 2024, Remote Navigator services were not being utilized to their full capacity. Accordingly, the Circuit and District Courts, in conjunction with Michigan Legal Help, made the decision to move the Remote Navigator computers to the county-run district courts to enhance access to services outside of Mt Clemens.

Remote Navigators are available Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 1 pm and Fridays from 9 am to Noon. Litigants can otherwise access the computers during business hours to visit Michigan Legal Help and utilize their tools for completing forms.
